If media reports are to be believed Team India captain Virat kohli has been striped off his captaincy after IPL franchise IPL failed to win the title in 11 years under his captaincy. However, RCB has denied such reports and said Virat Kohli will remain as the captain of the team in the upcoming season as well.
Reports had earlier suggested that the franchise had replaced Kohli with AB de Villiers but franchise decided to put a full stop to all the rumours. “We can clarify on record that the news is incorrect and Virat Kohli is very much the captain of RCB for the next season as well,” a team spokesperson was quoted as saying by India Today. Kohli was appointed as the full-time captain of the franchise in the year 2013. Though he had previously led the team on a few occasions as he was performing the role of vice-captain after being retained by the team ahead of 2011 auction.
However, the team hasn’t been able to win a title under him in past seven seasons that he has led the team. The best of RCB came in 2016 when they made it to the final of the tournament. In the final, the Men in Red went down to Sunrises Hyderabad as they failed to chase down a target of 209, finishing at 200/7. Kohli was unstoppable with the bat in that season as he scored 973 runs in the tournament - scoring four tons - at an average of 81.08.
In 2017, the teams failed to continue its form and finished at the eighth spot. Kohli was retained by the franchise ahead of 2018 auction but this season as well they finished at the sixth spot. AB de Villiers and Sarfaraz Khan were the two other players to be retained by the franchise. Kohli broke all records ahead of the IPL as he was paid an amount of Rs 17 Crore, highest-ever money which a player has been paid in the history of the tournament. With the franchise confirming that there will be no change in the captain, Kohli will have the responsibility to improve team’s performance next season.
