If you are a film enthusiast, Vasan Bala is not a new name to you but in case you are not familiar with this man, this trailer is probably the introduction for you. ‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’ is the directorial debut of Mr. Bala and we are waiting for the movie to release. Bala’s IMDB page says “Vasan Bala is a writer and assistant director, known for Peddlers (2012), Raman Raghav 2.0 (2016) and The Lunchbox (2013).”
‘Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota’ translates to The Man Who Feels No Pain and the trailer gives us a glimpse where the man literally feels no pain. Confused? Let me explain.
In the trailer, we see a young boy, Surya who is suffering from a rare disorder i.e. congenital insensitivity to pain. Now that you are already invested in the concept, any person who has this rare disorder does not feel any physical pain.
The movie stars Abhimanyu Dassani (Bhagyashree’s son), Radhika Madan and Mahesh Manjrekar (playing Surya’s father).
There are many points in trailer where you will cringe because Surya is jumping off roofs, his thigh is jabbed with a compass and slitting his palms with knife but all of this without the person feeling no pain or even realising that something is there.
On the other hand, Surya’s father played by Mahesh Manjrekar seeing at his condition urges him to train in martial arts and the rest you can imagine. Surya also roams around wearing protective glasses just for his eyes’ safety and a water bag strapped so that he doesn’t get dehydrated with all that fighting and exhaustion.
The director of this supposed epic says “Mard ko dard nahi hota is an iconic line but in this day and age it is really not that iconic. You feel dumb saying things like that. So the film also throws light on those things”.
He further explains, “I’ve grown up on martial arts films and not just in India but everywhere else in the world I think people have had similar childhoods, especially in the late 80s and 90s. It’s a privilege to have a conversation with your own childhood”.
Now check out the trailer after so much of hype in my writing and see if it’s worth:
