Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu Province in China, this place is known for its landscape. This is one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China and also home to six Chinese imperial dynasties. Since the place has a history and a profound culture, the city is filled with various museums, temples and mausoleums.
Let’s have a look at the various sites you can visit in the city:
1. Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum
This is the tomb of the first Ming Dynasty’s emperor Zhu Yuanzhang and his empress. The mausoleum is situated at the southern foot of Mount Zijin which is in the eastern suburb of Nanjing City. Also, this is largest in the Nanjing City and one of the largest ancient imperial tombs in China.
2. Yuejiang Tower
The tower is located on the top of the Lion Mountain in the northwest of Nanjing. It is a seven-storey tower which is of 53 meters in height. The name of the tower, "Yue" means "enjoy" and “Jiang” means “River,”. This tower stands tall around the beautiful scenery of the Yangtze River and Nanjing City.
3. Linggu Temple
Originally known as Jiangshan Temple, this is also called the Linggu Temple. This is a Buddhist temple which is 1.5 kilometers away from the east of the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum. The temple was in 514 as a burial site for the famous monk Baozhi of the Southern Dynasty.
4. Qixia Mountain
Located around 22 kilometers from the northeast of Nanjing City, this is also known as the Sheshan Mountain. The mountain has three peaks - Dragon Peak, Tiger Peak and Fengxiang Peak which covers over 860 hectares.
5. Xuanwu Lake
Xuanwu Lake is China's largest imperial lake, it is close to the city center. Being amongst the three famous lakes of Southern China, the lake has a history of over 1,500 years. This is a great place to roam around and click pictures with amazing background or simply enjoy the scenery in different seasons.
