Lord’s: After losing opener of five-match Test series, Team India captain Virat Kohli came under fire for some of the decisions, including a selection of playing XI, taken before and during the match.Former spinner Harbhajan Singh says both the teams failed to read the conditions at Edgbaston and opted for just one spinner. Bhajji feels Kohli made a big mistake by not playing Kuldeep Yadav as a second spinner.Known as a turnbanator, Harbhajan says, “Kohli should have pLAyed Kuldeep Yadav instead of Hardik Pandya. “I would like to pick Kuldeep Yadav instead of Ravindra Jadeja because he brings a lot of variations in the attack and he is a sort of bowler who would create chances on the 1st day if India loses toss and bowl first.”
According to former England captain Nasser Hussain, India want to play two spinners and all seamers …the problem is Indian top orders do not have some one who can bowl a bit so if they don’t play Pandya, they will literally have just 4 bowlers.
Comparing the captaincy of the two captains in the first test, Hussain says Joe Root was far better than his counterpart who faltered while making bowling changes. He said that when Curran and Adil Rashid were at the crease, it took Kohli one hour to bring back R. Ashwin despite him looking the most dangerous bowler. Kohli allowed Curran to settle down and he went on to score 63 off 65 balls to bring his side back into the game.
Virat Kohli has the habit of changing bowlers in short span of time and sometimes it allows the batsmen to have a better look at the bowlers. There is no doubt that Kohli is one of the finest batsmen of the world but is he lacking in leadership qualities…? Is he falling short of confidence that a captain must have in his team’s ability…?
The second test match starts at Lord’s from Thursday this week and all eyes will be on Kohli as, after the defeat, he said in a post-match press conference “Each player should stand in front of the mirror and ask himself questions.”
