England have won the toss and decided to bat first in the first match of the 5 game test series. England had already announced their playing XI yesterday. India has included one spinner Ashwin in the squad along with 3 pacers Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma. Cheteshwar pujara is sitting out.
After the toss Team India Captain Virat Kohli said, “We were thinking of bowling first with the cloud cover this mornin. I think it'll be a good batting wicket but we wanted to get maximum out of the ball on day one. There's always excitement and anticipation - it's a long series. We've to do well at different stages. The boys are well prepared. Comfortable with our skillsets and preparations. The pitch looks different from last time: the results haven't gone our way before here but we're not a team that carries baggage. We have three fast bowlers, Hardik is the allrounder, Ashwin the offspinner. Five batsmen and Karthik is the keeper. Rahul is in at No. 3, Pujara sits out.
Rival captain Joe Root said, “Looks a good surface. Some moisture which should burn off, looks good to bat. The preparations have been good, it's time to deliver now. We are have confidence but this is a new game. The selectors gave us good options and I am happy with the personnel we have.”
