Team India have made things bit difficult for them after losing against England in the second ODI at Lord’s. The pitch that wasn’t good for the bowling side, the Indian bowlers were taken for a ride in the last 10 overs and that was the time when game slipped out of their hands. The absence of experienced bowlers like Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar was the reason batsman like David Willey scored runs and the total was 322 when they should have been restricted to under 300 by the bowlers.
In the second innings when the Indian batsman was found struggling to score runs against the England side, then came the experienced player MS Dhoni who has time and again proved that he is the best finisher of the world, however through his performance it seems it was not his day. Dhoni was struggling to score runs in the second ODI scored 37 off 59 balls. The man who is known for finishing things in style hit just two fours in the innings. For this knock, Dhoni has faced a lot of flak after and uncharacteristic slow innings at Lord’s. However, the famous former cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar has shown his support for Dhoni.
Sunil Gaveskar while talking to leading news daily said, “Dhoni struggle was understandable because when confronted with an impossible, the options get limited and the mind becomes negative. Then all the good shots go straight to the fielder to add to the dott balls and the pressure becomes too much. Dhoni struggle reminded me of my infamous innings at the same venue. There is no need to panic though as India can turn it around with some disciplined bowling and building partmership while batting. What Lord’’s has shown though that England are No. 1 side for a reason and that India have to lift their game to win the series.”
