"It's sad and clear that on several counts you've discussed, you don't know what you're talking about. I would like, for example, for you to express in clear terms how, say, Java and any of its incarnations addresses the ideas embodied in OpenDoc. And when you're finished with that, perhaps you can tell us what you have been doing for the last seven years."

Remember the famous insult Steve Jobs faced when he was answering a question at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference. The way he responded to the insult motivates everyone. This is how you too can respond to the insult as he did 20 years ago:

Take pause:
The first and foremost thing one needs to do is to control their emotions. You must compose yourself before speaking anything and for that to happen you need to take a short break and can be silent for some moment if necessary. The significance of pauses and silence is also highlighted by great communicators.

Critically think about the statement:
It is important to critically examine the statement made about you. Take time to reflect on what is being said before passing any explanations about the same.

Agree to some part of the situation:
One important thing one needs to keep in mind is that they need not attack the concerned person. The perfect reply can also be given by the ideal statement politely. One need not lose their cool to respond to the insult. You need to be smart to deal with it and to be successfully able to do that you need to take the other person in confidence and this can be done by initially agreeing to some part of the situation made and then using your ability to make them see the bigger picture.

Using vulnerability:
Vulnerability is a great tool to give back to people. Accept that you have done a mistake and you will learn from the mistake made in the past and in this way you can strongly respond to the insult.

Finishing strongly:
One needs to end strongly. This could be done by motivating the other person or clarifying why you made the particular mistake.
